On Saturday evening after dinner, we went for a family "night walk" down our street. Our street ends at an unfinished residential construction site and the road continues but unpaved into the hilly canyon area that we live in. We had headlamps and the Noodle's solar-powered, self-powered radio flashlight.
By the time we returned home, we had an excellent collection of chestnuts.
Today I am shipping an order from my shop, making soup for lunch and later knitting with a friend and then dinner out with other friends. There is serious Lego ship building going on beside me at the moment and anxious waiting for a playdate with the neighbor. I'm in charge of the yams/sweet potatoes for Thursday so I guess I'll be recipe hunting today too. Does anyone have a favorite recipe to share? Leave me a comment! :)

How great that you are knitting with a friend! Yay. I would like to see pictures. I am halfway through my throw and have just started knitting an evening purse.
ReplyDeleteHave you played 'conkers' with the peanut? You screw a hole through the chestnut, thread a string through it and tie a knot on the bottom. You do this twice. Then, the idea is to whack the other conker against the other, you each get one turn. Whoever knocks the other one to pieces wins. This was a popular playground game in England. Some people would have 'prized' conkers that had won many matches. lol. Warning. ouch fingers may happen so maybe its not such a good idea. Remember, I would like to see piccies of your knitting. If you ever want a knit date with me, let me know. We could meet up for lunch at peets or starbucks in my worktown
We did a last minute Thanksgiving thing at our place this year(Thanksgiving is in October in Canada). For some reason I hadn't thought about how I was going to prepare the sweet potatoes. I remembered that in university my roomate and I used to make a recipe with ginger and apple juice. I ended up throwing sliced sweet potatoes, carrots and squash into a lasagna pan with some butter, s&p. I put an apple or two through my juicer and poured the juice over, covered it with foil and baked it for about an hour, maybe a bit more. It was so good!!! So simple and everyone gushed over it and the turkey my hubby bbqd. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely to know you had a good weekend. Isn't it fun to get creative and crafty with a friend. :) We don't celebrate thanksgiving here in Malaysia...but seeing those chestnuts makes me wanna go out to chinatown and buy Roasted Chestnut Flavored Coffee Beans to eat. :D
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely merry happy day and a wonderful thanksgiving! Love to you!
